For the finale of this year's Parents Forum, we were thrilled to welcome Brett Harvey from Taima Korero, who delivered an insightful presentation on the critical and timely topic of internet safety and addiction. The event was made even more accessible with live Mandarin interpretation, ensuring that all parents could fully engage with the content. It was a fantastic conclusion to our series, and we’re grateful to everyone who joined us for this important conversation.

Saturday November 9, 2024

Over the weekend, ACTT and PBTech hosted a special event focused on fostering healthier digital spaces for families. Attendees had the exciting opportunity to collaborate and build a $3000 gaming PC while also engaging in important conversations about safe internet and device use.

With the rapid advancement of technology, online gaming and artificial intelligence play an integral role in shaping how young people interact. While gaming offers numerous benefits, it's essential to address the risks of excessive screen time and negative language. By working together, we can ensure safer, more positive online environments for the next generation.

Thanks to the partnership with PBTech, families also had the chance to redeem exclusive coupons at PBTech's Christchurch locations. Every redemption contributed to ACTT's efforts to acquire the latest gaming hardware, supporting the growth and innovation of the gaming community.

We had a wonderful time connecting over coffee and sharing stories with both current and future Asian counsellors. The event provided a warm, welcoming space where we could get to know each other better and reflect on our personal "whys" for pursuing this meaningful work.

It was inspiring to hear everyone's experiences and motivations, and we're grateful for the opportunity to come together, learn from one another, and strengthen our community of counsellors.

Our Trust Manager Allen Hou had the opportunity to share their insights in an interview with Joint Media, discussing the unique cultural strengths that the Chinese community brings to multicultural environments like New Zealand. They highlighted how bilingualism and cultural understanding offer a significant advantage, often overlooked by many within the community.

The conversation also focused on the value of creating a harmonious work environment, an approach that fosters collaboration and enhances team dynamics. Our Trust Manager encouraged the Chinese community to confidently share their ideas, as diverse perspectives are highly valued in Western settings. This interview provided valuable reflections on how embracing cultural strengths can drive success in today’s global workplace.

Parent Seminar - Will My Children Become a “Problem Child”

Monday September 16, 2024

ACTT hosted a seminar for parents , addressing the common concern of whether our children might one day become "problem youths." The event was led by renowned youth crime lawyer John Wu and local music teacher Christy Phang-Yau, a well-respected figure in the community and a successful Chinese parent role model.

During the session, John Wu shared valuable insights from his experience as a social worker and lawyer, discussing the unavoidable challenges teens face during their growth and how parents can prevent potential issues. He also explained the role of social workers, clearing up misconceptions about home visits and focusing on how they aim to ensure children's safety.

It was a highly informative and engaging event, providing parents with practical knowledge to support their children's development. We were grateful to have such a diverse group of attendees, including parents and grandparents, who took the opportunity to ask questions and connect with one another.

Parent Seminar - Raising a 'Problem' Child is Really That Easy

Saturday April 7 2024

On April 7th, we hosted an insightful Parent-Child Seminar titled "Raising a 'Problem' Child is Really That Easy," led by the insightful Panny. This session explored key parenting strategies such as how to be a “gentle but firm” parent, the importance of self-reflection, setting boundaries, and connecting emotionally with children to better understand their inner needs.
